A roller shade is the simplest window shade there is: one panel of fabric on a tube, raised and lowered by a chain, a cordless spring or a motor. Add a valance or fascia and the roll disappears behind a clean header; leave it off for the most minimal look. Fabrics run from sheer and light-filtering to room-darkening and full blackout, so the same shade works in a kitchen, a bedroom or an office.

Roller shades for large windows and sunrooms

Roller shades scale to large windows — two-story great-room glass, walls of windows under a vaulted ceiling, and sunrooms where five or six openings need to match. One fabric, one operation, repeated cleanly across the run; motorization groups them onto a single remote.
